Love Letter Series: The Smoking Slipper of Dreams
Dear Stubbs & Wootton Carmen Miranda Slipper,
I first spotted your relative--a black velvet men's style--on my coworker. "Where did you get those?!" and "Do they make women's?!" I cried. "Stubbs & Wootton," and "Yes," he replied, and we huddled in front of my computer to take a better look. That's when I saw you: Bright red, plush in your velvet fabric, adorable with your embroidered cabana people, irresistible. Immediately I imagined the two of us together. Me--wearing black slacks and a blousy button down, you--on my feet. Think of all the places we'd go together?! Think of all the compliments we'd receive! All because of you! What do you say? Rendezvous?
Now you know the story. What can I say? I love a good smoking slipper. One look at Carmen Miranda and the Mermaid Merman had me all lightheaded and lovestruck. Handmade and meant to be worn from morning to midnight, these pretty little diddies are a city girl's dream come true. There are options for men and women, and there are myriad fabrics other than velvet (if that's not your think, though I can't even imagine...).
From February 1–14, I'll be posting love letters to the things I've been obsessing over lately. From sweets to slip-ons, these are the showstoppers that are picking up my pulse this winter.
