Spring Bootcamp: Refresh Your Beauty & Style Routine
While it hardly feels like spring in New York City, I'm gearing up for sunnier times. What does that really mean, exactly? Well, it means I've gotta crawl out of the lasagna hole I've been living in and get it together. Time to cast off that grumpy winter funk, reinvigorate my wardrobe, crack open new beauty favorites, and reevaluate my grocery list. Here are a few essential To Dos that will bring me back to life in a new-season way.
ELEVATE MY SMOOTHIE GAME
Weekends are for brunching and coffee and Bloody Mary's. But I keep my weekdays buttoned up with wholesome breakfast smoothies. Usually I do something like this:
- 2 handfuls of organic kale and/or spinach
- a palm full of blueberries
- 1 banana or 1/2 of an avocado
- about a teaspoon of flax seeds
- almond milk
Then there are my add-ins--coconut oil, parsley, ginger, and/or almond butter are often in the mix. On mornings when I hit the gym at 6:30 a.m., I usually toss in a tablespoon of vegan protein powder like Vega Chocoloate or Yuve.
If I'm looking for a pick me up in place of my daily coffee, I'll opt for Yuve Matcha powder. You can mix it with steamed milk and a hint of agave to make a matcha latte, or add a bit to your morning smoothie. It's an amazing super food packed with amino acids.
Pare Down, Clean Up
As I grow older, my style sensibility has shifted: buy less, spend more. Sounds like a bad deal for me, right? But I've never been happier with my wardrobe. My goal these days--whether I'm buying Everlane tees or Gucci loafers--is that I want to love every single thing I put into my wardrobe. I ask myself these questions with each purchase:
- How often will I wear it?
- Does the thought of wearing it thrill me?
- Can I easily mix and match it with the rest of my wardrobe?
- Is it well made, carefully crafted, or beautifully embellished?
- Am I buying it just because I'm bored? Only because it's on sale?
Believe it or not, this questioning criteria has helped me toss out some of "whim" purchases (or not waste my money on cheap stuff) and edit my wardrobe in a way that's more creative, exciting, and versatile. I have my basics, like the aforementioned Everlane tees, sweaters, and buttons that I like to pair with skinny jeans. Then I layer in the nicer statement pieces. For these I usually scour sites like Farfetch.com to find really unique, interesting styles that I know I won't see 3 other girls wearing at a party.
BOOST MY BEAUTY ROUTINE
I'm constantly rotating in new beauty products, but these are a few of the new essentials that I won't be going without this spring:
Amore Pacific Time Response Eye Renewal Creme
In the morning, I'm still using my DDF Protective Eye Cream with SPF 15. But at night, I'm loving the creamy consistency of this quick-absorbing cream. Ever since I started wearing their cushion compact foundation, I've been kind of obsessed with this Korean favorite.
Rodan + Fields Micro-dermabrasion Paste
I'm a big advocate of exfoliating 3x a week, and I love that this paste can be used on dry skin for an intense scrub or on wet skin for a gentle slough. My R+F consultant is Chelsea Crabtree, and you can contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org/504.336.1014 if you're looking to purchase or have additional interest in the brand.
All the Mists!
For months I've been obsessing over spritzes, and I can't choose just one. I keep one at home, in my bag, and at my desk. Chantecaille Rose Water, Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist, and Caudalie Beauty Elixir, and Immunocologie Vital Ionic Mist are just a few of my favorites.
